Having problems killing lagiacrus for the first time.

So after looking around the web at some other peoples advice i decided to try asking you guys. I have seen other people say that spears are a good way to go but i am not very proficient when it comes to spears. I am using Baroth armour on account of it having high thunder resistance and have been contimplating using the longsword. Any advice would be extremely helpfull thanks,
-Blazingpi14 (By the way i'm mainly a greatsword user, although i'm also pretty handy with a sword and shield.)

I'm gonna make this REAL simple for you. Go for any kind of weapon with a shield. Why? Well because your mobility underwater is drastically reduced from land battles. Furthermore: You know that lunging jump dodge you can do on land? Obviously that's taken out too. Shields (specifically lance, that's my favorite) compensate for these disadvantages.

I support the two statements previously made. Both the sns and the gs make for good weapons. I'm just further explaining why, and adding lance to the list of preferred weapons.

If you are willing to try using the hammer then I suggest the plume flint, otherwise a high damage GS with some traps and flash bombs might have to be the way to go

Underwater fights are never easy for me, but I actually found the sword and shield pretty useful for Lagiacrus. I stayed pretty close to him, did a quick combo, dodged to the side, repeat. I also used a fair bit of bombs, that always helps. I believe I used the Hypnos Knife (sleep effect) with an armor setup of Blast Earring, Bnahabra, Alloy, Bnahabra, and Bnahabra. Gem it right and you could get Bombardier, Trap Master, Status Atk Up, and something else, I can"t remember. But anyways, that's what worked for me the best. Although I do mostly use lances when I fight a monster for the first time.

Oh and when he starts to swim way to the other side of the area, just put your weapon away and get out of the way!

Bounce Bombs work well against Lagiacrus, but other than that, using a Sword and Shield would be a good idea underwater (preferably the fire SnS.) Hope this helps!

Greatswords will basically keep you still so that is almost a death sentence offline solo. Sword and shield is good against almost anything. The Spear, or Lance, is probably the best underwater weapon, along with the Hammer and Bowgun.
Really, if you are good with SnS go with that.
