Tackling Yama Tsukami, Getting into G3

So I have been running in a three man group in MHFU, and we have finally reached a wall, The Floating Dragon Yama Tsukami. I was wondering what would be the best approach for taking down this monster, ie: should i used a bowgunning set or blademaster set? Furthermore I was wondering what should my friends try for? Although I have one friend that will only use LS while the other uses GS, lance, GL and Bow? So I would appreciate if I could get the following questions answered:
1. Should I use a Blademaster set or Bowgunning set? (if you have a recommended set I am open for it)
2. I need a recommended armor set with skills that is suited for a Long Sword user, along with a preference on the weapon. ie: focus on a good raw LS or Ice/Dragon element LS
3.What should my third party member go for? Great Sword, Lance, Gun Lance or Bow? Also if you could give a recommended Weapon along with armor set up w/skills would be appreciated.
Thanks for the help

A good tip that nobody has mentioned yet is that you can use Tranquilizer bombs on Yama when he's doing his inhale attack to stun him. The initial amount is 2, and you have to hit him with one more after each stun (so second stun should be 3, then 4, then so on). If you're hunting on your own the most you'll probably get is 3 stuns, but if you're working with teammates you should be able to get more in.

I was always a fan of using a great sword with critical draw, as there are a lot of times where you're not going to get a lot of time to get a full combo off. Of course if you're getting those stuns off, just about anything will work!

I'm not sure how you could possibly get stuck on Yama-Tsukami... Either way I suggest using a Heavy Bowgun with Guts and Evasion+2. The reason being that evasion is a wonderful skill and does wonders for Yama. Have a Long Sword at the ready as well, the long reach is helpful for getting his arms. I would also suggest having a bow with guts and evasion as well. Guts stops any instant kill moves from killing you, leaving you with the minimum amount of health left. It only works if your health is above 75% before being hit. My Long Sword set for Yama is Rathalos X which is widely known as a Great Sword set but I gemmed in some useful skills to make it worth using. I don't long sword any more though, hammer master race. Remember he's weakest to ice then dragon! I hope this helped.

WildsevenblueSo does that mean that you would recommend me using a Hammer set? or should I just stick with a HBG set?

if i remember correctly the best thing i found to use was a fire longsword, me and my brother managed to two man it with relative ease, try using the rathalos long sword. also remember to get everyone to bring drank bombs because when he breaths in i think you can knock him to the floor by throwing atleast 2 at him, as i said though it has been around a year since i fought him, a good set to use would be high rank azure rathalos. sorry for the text block but just make sure to attack the sides of him and not his mouth because it's the weakest part to element i think.

Cubespikewoops i was very wrong, he is weakest to dragon and ice, try using the blango LS

Jan 29, 2013 22:48

WildsevenblueBlango over the Kushla LS?

Jan 31, 2013 02:22

CubespikePersonally i prefer the blango one but your choice, this is the G-Rank one, it has around 1200 damage

Jan 31, 2013 19:11

WildsevenblueIsn't that one the Blango Destructor-G? I don't think we can get that one until we beat Unkalos

Cubespikeoh woops sorry i didn't realise, i haven't played mhfu in a very long time so im fairly rusty on it, but if i remember correctly me and my brother managed it in full ceanetuer Z the orange crab thing, and then use the electric long sword, like the true devil slicer or something, it looks like an upgraded iron katana

WildsevenblueYeah, I have both of those but I thought Yama was weak to Ice and Dragon.

Jan 31, 2013 19:46

Cubespikeim not really sure, tbh we managed to do it so yeah, but whats the main problem you have, is it not killing it in time or dying to fast?

Jan 31, 2013 19:49

Wildsevenbluewell its not me that has a problem with it, its my friends they always get caught in the vacuum attack, I'm just wondering what is the best way for me to maximize my dmg output to Yama so that I can kill it faster than my comrades dying.

Jan 31, 2013 21:22

Cubespikehmm well i guess just have lots of lifepowders, and tranqs, and just attack it a lot so that you are atleast hurting it, but you always have to watch out for your friends... but if needed you can duo it with each of them to see who works best in pairs but it will take slightly longer

Jan 31, 2013 21:25

WildsevenblueYeah I might have to take that approach. What would you recommend for that? Have both of us be Blademasters or both be Bowgunning? Or should I have one be a Blademaster while the other Bowguns?

Feb 1, 2013 03:23

Cubespikeum, hmm well i did it as both blademasters, it was fairly affective and i've managed to make his armour, tbh though with the ceanatur and a strong enough LS you could probably solo him, but i do suggest just trying both to see what fits best, but i would watch maybe a short guide on youtube or something to know when to tranq and also when to duck under his spinning tentacle attack

I would get Lava armor X for guts and I used Narga LS (good suggestion for your LS user). But, everyone should get Lava armor and gem it with whatever you want (though the gunner should get Bullet Limit). I think there should be more gunners but at least 1 blademaster(the LS). The gunner(s) should bring materials for ice shots. There you go.

WildsevenblueAs for gunning would you suggest LBG or HBG? Or would you suggest the Icicle Bow or the Blango Bow?

Jan 31, 2013 02:24

Kushala_DaoraLGB racks up a ton of damage, so I would reccomend LGB with ice shots. Just watch out for the wind tunnel ( 1 hit kill ) but that is what guts is for.

look what people are not telling you is that when yama sucks some one up in the vortex they stay alive when they are in mid air have some 1 use life powder before they hit the ground and he will live also ice ranged worked batter than dragon ranged 2 LBG users with ice rapid fire or pierce s will take him down fast

Kushala_DaoraYup. I forgot to say that's what guts was for.
