When using a status coating, such as poison or sleep, does the monster still take elemental damage from your bow?

I noticed that that when using a Status Coating when an arrow hits a monster it will flash a purple or yellow (etc.) 'splash' to indicate that the monster has just taken a status effect, and not an elemental 'splash'. Example: I have the Sonic Bow III and shoot a Rathalos. When the arrows hit a Thunder element 'splash' pops up. I then put a Paralysis Coating on and when the arrows hit a Paralysis 'splash' shows. Is the monster (Rathalos) still taking elemental (Thunder) damage?

Don_QuixotePower coatings don't give a status affect, he's referring to Sleep, Para and Poison coatings only.
