Wii U necessary for Trultimate?

I have Trultimate on the 3ds, but i would like to play online. I do not have a Wii U, but i was wondering if i can play Trultimate on the regular Wii, with either the classic controller, or Nunchuck and remote style. Is this possible or do i need to buy a wii u pad thing?

Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate was made specifically for the Wii U and 3DS, you will need a Wii U and a Wii U version of the game to play it online. The Wii U and the Wii are separate gaming systems, The Wii can NOT play Wii U games. There is no way to play Trultimate online with the 3DS so you need to buy a Wii U and a copy of the Wii U version to play online.

AzelActually you're half right. He -only- needs a Wii U to play online, if he already has the 3DS version and a 3DS. A Wii U, with the wired LAN accessory (also required for this setup), with a certain application which is free, can hook up the 3DS version of the game to the Wii U servers. Downside is, you can't make rooms, only join them. Also, you can't use the console's wifi to connect to the internet, as it is used to connect to your 3DS, so you need a wired LAN adapter for the Wii U. All in all, once you buy a Wii U, I see no reason why NOT to also buy the Wii U version of the game and play it properly on the TV screen, but hey! There's still the option to do it with "just" a Wii U, wired LAN adapter, the free app by capcom, a 3DS, and the 3DS version of the game. http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/02/monster_hunter_3_g_on_3ds_to_go_online_via_wii_u_adapter

Uzu-OhranAzel- What your describing is only available in japan and seems pretty pointless as you have to have a wii u already to hook the 3ds to the online adapter. On top of that it says that when you are using this adapter you can't play on the U itself at the same time, which would at least add the ability for 2 players sitting next to eachother to hunt online together.

I actually just recently heard about an update in the works that will allow people to play online with the 3DS version via the internet capabilities of the Wii U. Think of it like a possible Ad-hoc party kind of thing. I don't have a link, but if anyone else knows what I'm talking about, please feel free to back up my claim.
