What is the best way to obtain a Rathian Ruby?

I have tried exactly 14 times recently on a high rank rathian hunting quest where every single time we broke the head, cut the tail, and broke both wings, ive had ultra lucky cat twice and maybe three times i had supercarver and carved the tail twice but never in my entire monster hunter tri experience have i ever aquired a rathian ruby. i am 1 material away from making the full rathian +. heck, i have full rathalos already and im working on full diablos and have 4 majestic horns already.

TL;DR can someone tell me the drop rates on rathian rubys and what the best way for me to aquire one would be?

Ultra Lucky Cat only increases normal rewards; same thing with Good Luck and Great Luck. If you really want to benefit from the breaks and tail cuts, you need the Capture Expert and/or Carving Master.

Capture Expert adds one more break reward. Baggi (high or low rank) and Scholar+ naturally give this.

Carving Master gives one more carve. Ranger naturally gives this, and you can use Scholar+ with a talisman to get to it.

Armor Suggestions:
- Baggi (High or Low rank): Gives Capture Expert, Ice Resistance, as well as Focus for Hammer, GS, LS, and SA users.
- Scholar+: Gives Capture Expert, Good Luck, and Carving Pro. Try and get to Carving Master. Beware of Demonic Blessing.
- Ranger: Carving Master, Speed Gather, and Wide Range+2. Useful for carving; beware of the Horrible Luck (for normal rewards).

[As for drop rate, Don_Quixote nailed it: use the Monster Hunter Wiki page.]

vattoI think the 6* rathian+rathalos quest gives both rubies as quest rewards.

Daspammerguyi also think using the lucky cat skill (forgot which one) that gives extra items can help with getting rare stuff. on my first test with it on high rank capped rathalos i got a ruby in 1 try. if it doesnt work like that i just got lucky then.

Well the MH Wiki can give you drop rates, but the best way is to capture the Rathian in the HR 51 Double Trouble, after breaking the head. That is the only break the gives Rubies/Plates on any Rathian. Other than that cut the tail and try not to want it too badly, what with the Desire Sensor ;)
